Incredible Footage From Inside A Cruise Liner Being Battered By A Storm

Extreme Rough Sea Inside Ship Video

The following footage comes from the unfortunate voyage of one of a P&O Pacific Sun Cruise back in September 2008. The cruise ship encountered some wild weather about 400 miles off the coast of New Zealand and all hell broke loose in the normally peaceful interior. The onboard video captures terrifying scenes with chairs and humans slipping and sliding all over the shop.

The waves must have truly been huge, because cruise ships, you may have noticed, are massive, and not particularly easy to rock; and as you can see from the video, the ship was moving about substantially.

This is what those Star Trek guys wish they had looked like:

I know it’s not funny, it must have been terrifying for those trapped in the mighty metal bowels of a ship at sea. But still, it kind of is a bit funny, isn’t it?

Here’s what I mean about the Star Trek thing. This is a stabilised version of The Starship Enterprise entering troubled zones:

Anyhow, I digress. Apparently those who lived through this drama (the cruise, not the Enterprise) received a 25% discount off their next voyage. Just to be clear, everyone did survive but there were 42 injured folks. Mostly injured from flying furniture.

How many people do you reckon took them up on that 25% offer? I might have thought twice before venturing onto the deep blue again.

Whilst we’re on the subject here’s footage which apparently shows a cruise ship hitting a whirl pool. The action really gets going around 1:45. Scary stuff:
