Capybara On The Run

It’s not often that the capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) gets much attention in the media.

So it’s nice to see a video of one surface on social media. They deserve their turn in the spotlight. We all know they’ve waited patiently.

I’m sure many of you will remember that the capybara is the largest rodent on earth and lives in the dense forests of South America.

It os, essentially, a massive rat. But somehow, without the long creepy tail, it isn’t anywhere near as gross as that sounds.

The capybara in the following video is called Prokhorov and he lives in a zoo in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

For some reason, the little guy decided he no longer wanted to be a captive, and he made a break for it.

I don’t know whether his bid for freedom was successful, but I’m glad the little guy is having a go.

“RUN PROKHOROV RUN!”:

Here are a couple of extra capybara facts that you may not be acquainted with:

1) During Lent and Holy Week, the consumption of most meats is banned. But, the Catholic church has deemed capybara meat OK to consume.

2) The ticks that live on the capybara can be vectors to Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

So, there you go.
