Zhan Huan: Proving That Big Is Beautiful (And Creepy)

Zhang Huan - Q Confucius No. 2

Zhan Huan (born 1965) is a big player in the wave of modern artists becoming more accepted and promoted in the traditional land of China. I found the images above and below of his massive Confucius statue called Q Confucius No. 2. I was intrigued, so I dug out some other bits and bobs of his too.

He works in sculpture, performance art, paint and photography. A well rounded weirdo. Zhang Huan doesn’t mind wearing clothes made out of meat and likes getting naked whenever he can.

Huan now lives and works in New York and Shanghai.

China certainly isn’t the easiest country in the world to enter and navigate by all accounts. But with the slowly opening door of post-communist capitalism we may all get to walk in Confucius’ foot prints soon enough.
