Amusing & Moving Chinese Street Photography By Liu Tao

I’ve become quite fascinated with China recently. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, it’s just sort of crept up on me. These photographs by Chinese 32-year-old artist Liu Tao have done nothing to calm the yearning I have to visit the ancient land of the rising sun.

Tao is a self taught photographer (aren’t we all) and predominantly snaps the ordinary chaps and chapesses in his home town of Hefei. He’s going down a storm on China’s version of Facebook – Weibo.

Whilst working for the local water company, Tao traveled across town on his motorbike to read meters and, on his way, he’d take a few photos to ease the boredom.

Tao manages to catch things at the perfect pause. I’m not sure how he manages it? It doesn’t matter though, they’re great either way. Some are humorous, some have a poignant edge and others seem fairly bleak. I guess that’s life.

Here’s a selection of some of his seemingly serendipitous snaps:

I absolutely love his stuff.
