Pawel Kuczynski: Satirical Art From Poland

You know how some people say that they like art that makes them think? Well, in general I’m the opposite. I don’t want to have to switch my brain on if I’m looking at a pretty picture. I want to be spoon fed. Having said that that Pawel Kuczynski‘s cartoons are a nice halfway house, they’re beautiful to look at whilst poking their finger in the ribs of society.

Pawel Kuczynski has a dig at the world in a not very subtle but very creative manner. And there’s a lovely quality to the light in Kuczynski‘s handiwork. I’m a convert:

Born in Szczecin, Poland, Kuczynski focuses on politics, poverty, injustice, the power held by the rich and ridiculous Western follies. All the good stuff. Kuczynski graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in Poznan and has been rewarded with more than 100 prizes and distinctions. One of these awards was the coveted “Eryk” prize in 2005 which is awarded by the Association of Polish Cartoonists.

Kuczynski uses simple materials: watercolor, ecoline and color pencils on  paper. When asked how he creates his ideas he says:

I just observe reality. I put this informations in my head.. and I wait for the results.

Another quote from the great man:

We all live together on this world, for so many years but we keep doing the same mistakes.

Good stuff Kuczynski, keep it up.
