Awesome Photos From Russia: Bonus Collection

Russia has a lot going on. Its lands are wider than the diameter of Pluto. It has mega rich, it has ultra poor. It has clement environments, it has harsh environments. Russia borders Europe, it nestles next to China, it has a border with North Korea. The place is varied beyond belief.

It is no surprise that there is a constant stream of wonder from the cameras of the Russian populus, but despite these facts I find myself constantly amazed at the images that hail from within this monumental portion of planet earth.

Today we have pictures that’ll make you chuckle of course, but there are some that are simply a joy to observe in their own right. Let’s get going. FYI, the picture above is a birthday cake made for a 99-year-old Russian fella.

Diamond Princess cruise ship enters port of Vladivostok. I recommend clicking to enlarge…

“What shall we do with this plane?”

“Leave it there?”

“Yeah, good idea, it fits neatly”.

I looked at the photo above, of a supine Lenin, for quite a while. It’s awesome for many reasons. But it wasn’t until my 8th or 9th stare that I realised she has a scythe. A scythe? Then I realised that she would have actually used her scythe for farming. Not so weird after all.

The picture below is currently my favourite photo of all time. At a glance you can be amused by the newspaper doilies but in the same second a little bit touched that they stole their time in the sun regardless of the lack of pomp…

So… much… to… see…

Apparently this was a punishment for using his mobile phone too much. He had to carry a solid wooden case for the whole day…

Just a striking photo of Moscow in 1993:

And another from more recently…

I can’t confirm this is real, but I’m inclined to believe it is…

At least our politicians pretend to be interested…

GUTTED:

NAILED IT:

This is Russian senator Valentina meeting a Russian biker called “Surgeon”. It’s her hair that has me transfixed:

Tanning salon apparently:

Tashkent 1959:

Train station snapped by a private drone:

… happily ever after… not a single smile.

Yuri Gagarin Camping:

That was probably the best selection of Russian photos ever published. If you want to dispute that claim, here’s the rest of your revision:
