This is the kind of Russian art that seems really Russian. A guy in St Petersburg called Pyotr Pavlensky wrapped himself up in barbed wire and waited there, naked, to get cut out by police. I’m not sure of the intended message, but as a metaphor it’s pretty clear.
This isn’t Pyotr Pavlensky‘s first foray into painful, poignant art. A few months back he sewed his mouth shut and stood outside a Catholic church protesting about their corrupt financial activities. His antic have landed him in jail in Russia.
He was given political asylum in France, but has landed himself in trouble once again by setting fire to a bank.
He’s since become embroiled in another debacle surrounding political s*x tapes, promising to expose political corruption on a “political p*rn” website.
