Meteorite Hits Argentina
It’s not caused as much of a big fuss as the recent Russian meteorite, but another one smashed down over Argentina this Sunday. It wasn’t filmed from as many angles either unfortunately, the Argentinians don’t share the same Russian penchant for dash cam recorders.
It seems no one has gotten killed this time either which is cool. Before I play you the videos, I just want to clear something up that’s been bugging me, and it may have been bugging you too if you are a pedant of my caliber.
A meteor is the flash of light you see when bits and bobs from space hit the atmosphere.
A meteoroid is a bit or bob from space that’s smaller than a kilometer across (normally only a few mm)
A meteorite is any of that meteoroid material that doesn’t get completely burned up and actually hits the ground.
An asteroid is a larger chunk of rock in space.
A Comet is an asteroid-like object covered with ice, methane, ammonia, and other stuff that develops a fuzzy, cloud-like shell sometimes with a visible tail.
OK?
