Elephant Seal Goes For A Stroll In Busy Town Centre
Elephant seals are no joke. They’re huge and can get a bit tasty if they’re hassled.
One got bored of the ocean and went for a stroll/ wobble down a main street in the Brazilian town of Balneário Camboriú recently. He was kind enough to cross at a zebra crossing though, so maybe they aren’t as dumb as people would have you believe.
This bugger would weigh in at around half a tonne and held up traffic for an hour or so as police splashed it with water to keep it good and moist before it was rightfully returned to the sea.
Just as an aside, every breeding season, male elephant seals manage to put together their own personal hareems of 40-50 females and can grow up to 20 feet long.
Not long ago, numbers of these precious beasts were dwindling, but thankfully, as we can see from this video, they’re bouncing back and having a go at taking over dry land as well as their usual damp land.
